Sciatica
Sciatica
For chronic sciatic pain that is uncomfortable but not incapacitating, I'll typically use acupuncture with electrical stimulation for pain relief. The intention of this treatment is to provide relief while preventing future episodes by reducing inflammation and improving circulation.
For those with severe sciatic pain that is non-emergent, I generally avoid putting patients in a prone or side-lying position because these positions often worsen the pain. Instead, I usually opt for putting the patient in a seated position and administer homeopathic Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy. Depending on the situation, I will sometimes include acupuncture points known to have a systemic analgesic effect.
